Seven complete inaugural Navajo transcription program
Seven Judicial Branch employees completed the inaugural Navajo Court Transcription certificate program at Navajo Technical University and received certificates on December 8, 2017. See press release.

Judicial Branch awarded two federal grants
The Judicial Branch of the Navajo Nation was awarded two grants totaling $699,630 through the United States Department of Justice Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation.
Of that, $350,000 was awarded for the purpose area of Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court and $349,630 was awarded for the purpose area of Tribal Youth Program. Both grants are from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Read more about the grants.
Judges take oaths of office
Two judges were confirmed by the Navajo Nation Council during the fall session. They each took the oath of office delivered by Chief Justice Thomas J. Holgate on October 18, 2017, at the Navajo Nation Council Chamber.
Tina Tsinigine was confirmed as a probationary district court judge on October 17, 2017.
Malcolm P. Begay was confirmed as a permanent district court judge on October 18, 2017. Read the press release.

Chinle Justice Center opens doors to the public
The Chinle Judicial District began operations at its new location at the Chinle Justice Center on Navajo Route 27 in Chinle, Arizona, on October 9, 2017. The court, Peacemaking Program and Office of Probation and Parole Services for Chinle Judicial District now have office locations and will offer services at the new location.

Judicial Branch closure
The Navajo Nation Judicial Branch will be closed October 31 through November 3, 2017, for all staff to attend mandatory training. Please contact the respective court or program for more information.
Navajo Nation Supreme Court opinion compilation now for sale
September 28, 2017: The Navajo Reporter Vol. 9 is now for sale. The Navajo Reporter volumes are compilations of the opinions of the Supreme Court of the Navajo Nation. Volume 9 contains fully indexed and digested opinions from January 2006 through December 2012, as well as selected examples of decisions from the Navajo Nation district and family courts that applied Diné bi beenahaz'áanii.
